Momence to issue fines for lingering garbage cans

Garbagebins

Momence residents will have to pay $25 for leaving garbage cans in the street too long after collection.

The announcement came in response to a string of ongoing complaints about empty garbage totes that have been left on the street for days after collection.

"While the toters are convenient and hold a fairly large amount of garbage, when left out on the street after pickup, they certainly do become an eyesore and unfortunately, some residents still need to be reminded to get them away from the street," Momence Mayor Mick Porter said.

Porter reminded residents that the bins are expected to be on the curb the night before collection and off the curb the night of collection. Porter also advised residents to place their bins in alleyways if they have access to them.

"Getting in the routine of placing and removing the receptacles within the specified time frame is very important and part of being a good neighbor," Porter said.
