Momence officials recently met with local businesses and engineers to discuss major construction on Mechanic Street.
Momence Mayor Mick Porter said Tyson Engineering has drafted plans for sewer, curb, roadway and intersection improvements.
While Porter did not specify the total cost of the project, he said the city has secured half of the funding from the Illinois Department of Transportation as well as $150,000 from the Kankakee County Economic Alliance.
The city is also seeking $200,000 to $230,000 from the Community Development Assistance Program. Silva International, Momence Pork Plant and Van Drunen Farms have pledged to help cover any differences in construction costs left after those other funding sources have been tapped.
Construction is expected to begin this summer.
