Enbridge gives $5,000 toward KCC scholarships

Some Kankakee Community College (KCC) welding and electrical technology students will have a little more help paying their tuition, thanks to a gift from the pipeline company Enbridge.

Enbridge recently contributed $5,000 toward scholarships for students in those disciplines as a good faith gesture to the communities surrounding its 79 mile pipeline project that began in 2015.

“When one of our pipelines cross a community, we want to make sure we’re not just being seen as a pipeline company, but a good neighbor to those who live and work near our operations,” Enbridge Director of Chicago Region Operations John Gauderman said. “That’s why we’re so happy to form this partnership with the great people at KCC.”

Gauderman presented the donation to KCC President John Avendano Dec. 11.

“Any time we can significantly reduce a program’s cost as a possible barrier to student success, both the students and KCC are declared winners,” KCC Associate Dean of the Business and Technology Division Paul Carlson said.
