Kankakee attorney Lindsay Parkhurst will run on the Republican ticket for the District 79 state house seat.

"I've never run for anything in my life, and I'm asked to run for state representative," Parkhurst said. "I never looked to be a politician, but you never know where the journey of life will take you. Here I am."

Parkhurst was chosen by the county's Republican leadership based on her 27 year career in law, which has included award-winning stints offering pro-bono representation to clients unable to pay for her services.

"We chose Lindsay because she's a hometown girl," Kankakee County Republican Party Chairwoman Wanda Cantrell, said. "She's done a lot of work representing people who can't help themselves. The way she's been a voice for these people is how she wants to speak for the people of the 79th District."

Parkhurst will face Democratic incumbent Kate Cloonen in a general election in November.
