With five state qualifiers last year back this season, it's little surprise that the Bradley-Bourbonnais girls' tennis team has seen some success in 2016.

Returning state qualifiers Catherine Gray, Myra Zaheer, Allison Benoit, Isra Ansari and Elana Ferris got off to winning records this season, statistics from head coach Cathy Olshefski indicated.

Gray started the season 4-2 at No. 1 singles. Vasanwala was 5-2 overall, with all but one of the matches coming at No. 2 singles. The No. 1 doubles team of Ferris and Benoit was 5-2 to start the season, while Ansari was 5-2 on various doubles teams.

Other returning varsity players are Ravina Vasanwala, Carson Schimmelpfennig and Lauren Lamore.

BISHOP MCNAMARA

The team has 15 players with six seniors, head coach Linda Franco said. Seven of the players are back from last season.

Bishop McNamara's two senior singles players are Monica Alvarez and Elizabeth Villagomez.

The Blue Devils started this season 5-1, employing balanced scoring in the process.

Statistics from head coach Logan Hurley indicated that Andres Garcia – who had five goals last year – has six goals already this season. Andrew Saliba and Haiden Smith have five goals.

Peotone was 12-10-2 last year and 6-4 in the Interstate Eight Conference.

The Fightin' Irish started the season 2-3, then picked up wins over St. Anne and St. Rita from Chicago. Losses were to Peotone, Watseka and Beecher.

Sophomore forward Ben Kuntz had two goals on the season, a total matched by senior midfielder Steve Barajas, statistics from head coach Michael Curren indicate.

The junior-varsity team started 2-0 with wins against Beecher and Kankakee.
