Momence City Council met June 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 N. Dixie Highway, Momence. Mayor Chuck Steele called the meeting to order.

Roll Call:

Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook and Cope present. Alderman Temple was absent.

Approval Of Previous Meeting Minutes:

Alderman Metz made a motion to approve the minutes of the June 4, 2018 council meeting with a correction to the minutes in the Citizen Forum, the spelling of last name Weybright. Alderman Cook seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Cook and Cope voting yes. Alderman Clark and Rehmer passed.

Approval Of The Bills:

The bills were discussed at tonight's Budget and Finance Committee Meeting. Alderman Salomone made a motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Metz seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook and Cope voting yes.

Citzen Forum:

Tony Lampley – Request E. Washington St road closure for special events Saturday 7/28/18 and Saturday 9/1/18. Requesting street closure for block party from alley to Locust. Band will stop playing at 11 PM. Also request waive of State Special Use Permit as per e-mails given. Mayor indicates that the State had given their ok on waiving of the fee as long as the city approved. Alderman Cook made a motion to approve the waiving on the State fee and the street closure for the block party on both dates requested. Alderman Rehmer seconded the motion with Alderman Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook and Cope voting yes.

Mainstreet Report – would like to come in once a month to give an update on the status of Mainstreet. The Mayor and Mainstreet received an email from the Kankakee Vistors Bureau, doing a welcome photo shoot for the Bears Training Camp. Looking for 10-12 people (Mayor and team) to meet in Momence. Mainstreet looking to organize the event. Design Committee just gave an awning grants to two businesses in town. The planters have been planted, and will be submitting the payment for the planters that were purchased by Mainstreet. Old planters will be painted. There will be a town clean up day prior to Glad Fest. Cruise nights are the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. Already working on Bordertown Hauntings and Christmas Festival.

Jay Kerouac – solar gardens Thank you to the Mayor for the letter to the County Board. Asking for support at the next county board meeting in hopes to stop the solar farm in Momence.

Old Business Alderman Salomone appropriation public hearing was held tonight, will be moving forward with the appropriation ratification at the next meeting

Aldermanic Reports:

Alderman Cope will not be attending the next meeting.

Alderman Salomone BF meeting July 2, 7 pm

Department Heads:

Tina Demack – Farmer’s Market will be each Wednesday at the new location, corner of Second and Dixie. 3:30pm – 6:30pm.

Treasurer report – May accounts are not reconciled as of yet. Lori is assisting Jenene. Jenene is looking for assistance, cannot fill the duty on her own. Jenene is wanting permission to investigate further, looking for help. 5 CDs still sitting, working on reports for these.

Mayoral Report:

1. Discuss and Vote on Plan Commission recommendation for 227 Cherry Lane meeting on June 7. Motion to approve from the variance committee. Alderman Metz made motion to approve based on the commission recommendation for 2527 Cherry Lane for pool installation. Alderman Cook seconded the motion with Alderman Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook and Cope voting yes

2. Glad Festival Requests – requesting use of the River Street parking lot, parade routes, Washington Street, and footbridge for use during Flea Market. Requesting use of 10 golf carts. Alderman Rehmer made motion to approve, Alderman Metz seconded the motion with Alderman Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook and Cope voting yes

Ed Vandrunen wants to clean up the river bank across from FC

Alderman Salomone made motion to adjourn Alderman Carbonaro seconded the motion with Alderman Cope, Cook, Rehmer, Clark, Metz, Carbonaro and Salomone voting yes.

Meeting adjourned at 8:13 p.m.
