In an April 27 Facebook post, Rep. Thomas M. Bennett highlighted the availability of $309 million for Illinois homeowners. The Illinois Homeowner Assistance Fund (ILHAF) is available to homeowners to avoid mortgage delinquencies, defaults, displacements and foreclosures for income-eligible homeowners facing pandemic-related difficulties.
Applications to the ILHAF will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31.
“[Approximately] $309 million in assistance available to Illinois homeowners,” Bennett said in a post to his official Facebook account on April 27.
There are three steps to apply for the funding: (1) Go to an information session hosted by IHDA to learn about the ILHAF application process, program eligibility and other free resources available to help you save your home. (2) Contact your mortgage servicer or a HUD-certified housing counseling agency to talk about choices to avoid foreclosure. A certificate from a HUD-certified housing counselor or a letter from your mortgage servicer going over efforts to resolve your delinquency will be required to apply for ILHAF assistance. (3) Review the acceptable documentation list and be ready to show all the necessary documents.
The plan will also help residents pay their utility bills, not just mortgages and rent. Any individual person can receive up to $30,000.
