City of Momence City Council met Feb. 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 North Dixie Highway, Momence. Cook was not present.

ROLL CALL

Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen, Fordahl, and Temple, Vela Anderson, Doody, Lesyna and Heart.

Cook was not present.

APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

Alderman Josh made motion to approve the minutes of. Aldermen Tom seconded the motion with. All approved.

APPROVAL OF THE BILLS

Alderman Melissa made motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman mike seconded the motion all approved.

CITIZENS FOROM-

Kim Thompson asked about doing the farmers market and Tanya explained that she did not feel that the city could support 2 markets as the Park District will be holding the farmers market, and Kim Thompson stated the that was fine as she had another avenue lined up.

Old Business –

Nothing for old business

Aldermanic-

Alderman Doody presented the audit. Groskreutz Was on hand to go over the entire audit and answer and questions. The city was well funded, and everything was in good shape financially and we had an 800,000 surplus. It was asked what we could or should do differently and he stated we need to keep doing what we are doing as everything is in good shape. Mayor then asked about the fines and why the audit was not completed by October 30th as contract stated and he said he would discuss that privately Alderman Fordahl stated she has an upcoming phone conversation with go .gov on Thursday at 4 pm

Department Heads-

Tina gave an update on how the training was going. And that she would need to close city hall for a few hours for another training session.

• MPD stats for January 2026 are as follows:

o Arrests: 24

o Traffic Citations: 55

o Warnings: 132

o Traffic Stops Conducted: 192

o Total Service Calls: 427

o Firearms Recovered: 11

It’s important to note that only approximately 1⁄4 of the motorists stopped are being issued citations.

• Momence Meadows continues to present a challenge. We are actively working with the state to address these matters.

• I am pleased to announce that the 2025 MPD Police Officer of the Year. This year, the award will be shared between Nanci Ramirez and Lauri Rodriguesz. I will present these and other awards at the City Council meeting on March 02.

• Recruit police officer Chris Sanchez and Carmen Arroyo are progressing and doing well in the academy.

• Ofc Ramirez will attend field training officer school in early February and an officer in charge course in March.

• Ofc Blaskey’s employment with MPD was terminated for job abandonment.

• Sgt Arroyo continues to do an exceptional job assisting me with the operational and administrative functions of the police department.

• Our unmarked black explorer was put into service this week. This car will be assigned to Ofc Rodriguez on day shift.

• My squad was struck by another motorist Monday while I was stopped at a stoplight, damaging the front end. We will seek repairs from the other motorist’s insurance company.

• Vince Starks, a retired Homewood PD officer, is seeking a part-time position with MPD. I am currently conducting his pre-employment background investigation.

• The arson case at the old bowling alley continues to be investigated by the ATF.

• The re-organization and disposal of items located in the evidence room continues.

• No updates from the school.

• No litigation updates

• No union updates

• Tonight, I will be presenting Scott from DPW with an award for his dedication and service to MPD.

lla gave update on the water tower leak and stating it was scheduled to be repaired within the next week as of right now the water has been drained and is shut off to the tower and will have no effect on the community.

Treasurer report – Nothing to report

MAYORAL REPORT –

Mayor asked about Changing Next council meeting to Tuesday due to Presidents Day on Monday Council stated they wanted to have the meeting left to Monday. Mayor then asked to go into executive regarding employee benefits as well as hiring attorneys for local issues. To possibly come out to do business
