City of Watseka Public Works/Water Wastewater Committee met Jan. 20.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
PRESENT: Aldermen Miller, Garfield, Muench, Petersen, Pence, Brault, Alderwoman Rohlfs and Mayor Marcier
ABSENT: Alderman Dewitt
GUESTS: Public Works Director Loren Grosvenor and Keith Mulholland with Robinson Engineering
Alderman Miller opened the meeting at 7:09 pm. There was no public comment. Public Works Director Loren Grosvenor reported on the following projects:
New Well 12: Loren is thinking about a pilot program for iron and arsenic levels, with possibly installing a filtration system using ARPA money
Meter Reading Improvements-Radios: 1606 radios installed, about 400-600 more to go Grant for Watermain Exenstion on Elm St: Bid opening will be February 12th, the bid will be in 2 parts, Elm St and 3rd St- if the cost is to high for both the city will do the Elm St portion in house.
North St Watermain Extension: Robinson is still getting an estimate ready Watermain Breaks: 108 N 4th St- 1/18/2026 6”, this was a bad break with damage done to the foundation of the building at 108 N 4th St. this has been turned into insurance and Loren thanked the fire department for all of their assistance with traffic control and pumping out the basement. Also, watermain break on 12/23/25 at 601 N 2nd-4”
Parks: OSLAD Grant at Lakeview Park-band shell will be 24×34 and will be $22,000 over the budget but since much of the work at the park will be done in house it will still come in below budget. The splash pad 48×58 has been ordered with 30 fixtures. Streets: Oak St will have a bid opening February 2.
Staffing: currently down 2 employees, hired 1 seasonal employee for 2 hours a day and he will probably stay on for the summer
Equipment: the new 3-ton truck is at Rahn getting the plow and bed installed and should be finished in 3-4 weeks.
Loren stated Alderman Brault has given him a list of roads that he would like for Loren to look at. Mayor Marcier asked Loren to look at 1 block on S 3rd St.
Loren stated the city needs to be paying attention to the over size loads that are coming into town and using some city streets-he said they need to have a city permit to use the local roads off the of the state highway.
Alderman Miller makes a motion to adjourn at 7:30 and Alderman Garfield seconded. Roll call carried 8-0.
