The city of Kankakee recently recognized two police officers that were promoted within the department.
During a Dec. 5 city council meeting, Kankakee police chief Robin Passwater, along with the city council, recognized some of his officers as they were promoted to new ranks within the Kankakee Police Department. The promotions occurred because a Lieutenant retired from the police force, and the promotion of an existing sergeant to that vacancy left an opening for a sergeant. (8:30)
Scott Monferdini was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Scott has been a member of the force for 27 years. Since joining the force he has worked patrol, undercover, and investigations. He is a crime scene and homicide investigator, as well as in charge of all the evidence and verifying all cannabis evidence.
“Scott deserves it. He’s going to be an excellent supervisor,” Passwater said at the meeting. “I can tell you, when I was in the bureau working at 3:00 in the morning and you called one person up to get him to come in. It would be Scott because I knew Scott would answer the phone. I knew he’d come. So he always did never let me down. So I appreciate this guy and congratulations.”
Michael Coash was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Michael has been with the city police department for 12 years and prior to joining the force, he served in the US Marines. He has his bachelor’s degree, has worked on the streets, as a field training officer, master firearms officer, and is also a part of the Kankakee honor guard.
