Iroquois County announces continued highway load restrictions through early March

County highways in Iroquois County will remain restricted to posted axle loads from Monday, February 23 through Sunday, March 1, 2026. During this period, anyone needing to haul on township roads must first contact the local road commissioner for permission. The county has provided a contact list for commissioners at www.co.iroquois.il.us.

Alan Harwood, County Engineer for Iroquois County, stated: “The County Highways will continue to be restricted to the posted axle loads Monday February 23rd through Sunday March 1st. For the 2026 season you will need to contact the road commissioner for their permission to haul on any township road. For a contact list please visit www.co.iroquois.il.us . Thank you for your cooperation.”

Iroquois County is also home to several schools with an average student-to-teacher ratio of 12-to-1 during the 2022-23 school year, serving a total of 3,781 students and employing 317 full-time faculty members across its schools (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx). The teacher absenteeism rate in the county was recorded at 24.4% in that same year, which is lower than Illinois’s state average of 35.6% (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx).

Chebanse Elementary School had the highest enrollment of white students among all schools in Iroquois County with a total of 304 students (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx). Milford Grade School West Campus reported the highest number of multiracial students enrolled at 19 (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx), while Iroquois West High School had the largest Hispanic student population with a total enrollment of 74 (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx). Overall, white students made up approximately 80.8% of all enrolled students in county schools during that academic year (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx).
