Iroquois County announces highway axle load restrictions for February

The Iroquois County Office of County Engineer has announced that county highways will be subject to posted axle load restrictions from Monday, February 16 through Sunday, February 22, 2026. During this period, all haulers must adhere to the specified weight limits.

For those needing to transport materials on township roads during these dates, permission from the local road commissioner is required. A contact list for road commissioners can be found at www.co.iroquois.il.us.

Alan Harwood, County Engineer for Iroquois County, stated: “The County Highways will be restricted to the posted axle loads starting Monday February 16th through Sunday February 22nd. For the 2026 season you will need to contact the road commissioner for their permission to haul on any township road. For a contact list please visit www.co.iroquois.il.us . Thank you for your cooperation.”

Iroquois County schools reported an average student-to-teacher ratio of 12-to-1 in the 2022-23 school year, with a total enrollment of 3,781 students and 317 full-time faculty members across its schools (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx). Teacher absenteeism in the county was recorded at 24.4% during the same period, which is lower than Illinois’s statewide average of 35.6% (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx).

Among local schools, Chebanse Elementary School had the highest number of white students enrolled in the 2022-23 school year with a total of 304 students (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx). Milford Grade School West Campus reported the highest enrollment of multiracial students at 19 (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx), while Iroquois West High School had the most Hispanic students enrolled with a total of 74 (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx). White students made up approximately 80.8% of Iroquois County’s student population in that academic year (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx).

The county encourages all drivers and haulers to comply with these temporary regulations and seek proper permissions where necessary.
