Iroquois County will continue to enforce restrictions on axle loads for county highways from March 2 through March 8, 2026. The decision comes in response to projected wet conditions during the week.
The Office of the County Engineer announced that anyone seeking permission to haul on township roads must contact the local road commissioner. A contact list is available at www.co.iroquois.il.us.
“With the projected wet conditions this week, the County Highways will continue to be restricted to the posted axle loads Monday March 2nd through Sunday March 8th. For the 2026 season you will need to contact the road commissioner for their permission to haul on any township road. For a contact list please visit www.co.iroquois.il.us . Thank you for your cooperation,” said Alan Harwood, County Engineer for Iroquois County.
In other aspects of county life, schools in Iroquois County had an average student-to-teacher ratio of 12-to-1 during the 2022-23 school year, with a total enrollment of 3,781 students and 317 full-time faculty members across all schools (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx). Teacher absenteeism in Iroquois County schools was recorded at 24.4% for that period, which is lower than Illinois’s statewide average of 35.6% (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx).
Among local schools, Chebanse Elementary School had the highest number of white students enrolled—304 in total—while Milford Grade School West Campus reported having the most multiracial students with a count of 19 (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx). Iroquois West High School had the largest enrollment of Hispanic students at 74 (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx). Overall, white students made up approximately 80.8% of those attending public schools in Iroquois County during that academic year (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Home.aspx).
