The regular Board of Education meeting of Kankakee School District No. 111, Kankakee County, Illinois, was held at 6:10 pm in the Kankakee High School, 1200 W. Jeffery St. Kankakee, IL 60901.
ROLL CALL

A quorum was declared present.
Barbara Wells, Board President, led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Meeting with the Board were:
Dr. Genevra A Walters, Superintendent
Rachel Thornton, Recording Secretary
Stephanie Markham from the Daily Journal was present.

Board Report
❖ Developing Capacity Coaching Teacher Experience Survey Results
➢ This will be discussed at the next Board Meeting.
School Board Election
A motion was made by Williams, seconded by Johnston, to certify the election results. ROLL CALL VOTE: AYES; Archie, Bohlen, Gathing, Johnston, Verrett, Williams, and Wells. NAYS: none. Motion carried.
Reorganization of the Board
❖ Oath of Office-
➢ Chris Bohlen, Suzy Berrones, and Deb Johnston took the Oath of office.
❖ Adjournment of Old Board “Sine Die”
➢ A motion was made by Gathing, seconded by Archie, to adjourn the current board Sine Die. ROLL CALL VOTE: AYES- Bohlen, Gathing, Johnston, Verrett, Williams, Archie and Wells. NAYS- none. Motion Carried.
❖ Dr. Walters presented Barbara Wells with gifts and thanked her for her service to the district. Mrs. Wells wished the new board well and discussed the work ahead for the board.
❖ Seating of the New Board
➢ The new board was seated.
❖ Appointment of President Pro Tem
➢ Mary Archie made a motion, and Chris Bohlen seconded to nominate Jess Gathing to be President Pro Tem. There were no other nominations.

❖ Board of Education Meeting Schedule for 2023-2024
➢ A motion was made by Johnston, seconded by Gathing, to approve the Board of education Meeting Schedule for the 2023-2024 and Committee Meeting Schedule School Year. ROLL CALL VOTE: Johnston, Verrett, Williams, Archie, Berrones, Bohlen, and Gathing. Motion Carried
❖ Appointment of Committee Assignments
➢ Mr Bohlen stated he would like to have three members and the Board president on each committee. Mr. Bohlen stated he would like the Chairs to be:
■ Policy – Williams
■ Finance – Gathing
■ HR – Johnston
■ Curriculum – Berrones
● All agreed. All other members will be discussed at the next board meeting along with other district committees.
❖ Appointment of Adopt-A-School Assignments
➢ LCC – Johnston
➢ KHS – Williams
➢ King – Gathing
■ All other schools will be discussed at the next board meeting.
❖ KFT Informal Meeting Schedule
➢ A motion was made by Johnston, seconded by Gathing to approve the 2023-2024 KFT Meeting Schedule. ROLL CALL VOTE: AYES – Verrett, Williams, Archoe, Berrones, Bohlen, Gathing, and Johnston. NAYS: none. Motion carried.
Closed Session
At 6:42 pm, a motion was made by Williams, seconded by Johnston, to adjourn to closed session to discuss:
❖ The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, specific individuals who serve as independent contractors, or specific volunteers of the district, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee, a specific individual who serves as an independent contractor, or volunteer of the District or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity.
Closed Session was adjourned at 7:15 pm
At 7:20 pm, a motion was made by Williams, seconded by Johnston, to adjourn the meeting. All ayes; motion carried.
