Herscher Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Sept. 22

The Herscher village board meeting Monday night discussed Labor Day and the success of the weekend. Police Chief Chad Scanlon said it was a very quiet and safe weekend compared to previous years.

In other news, a contract renewal was approved for the village residents’ trash pick up with a 3% annual rate increase.

Also, the press box project at village park is underway and should be completed near the time of the first frost.

Finally, Village President Shannon Sweeney expressed optimism over a potential grant to help the village spruce up the downtown area. Sweeney stated that it is the first time he can recall in his ten years on the board that a grant was specifically tabbed for rural communities. The grant would be for potentially $250,000 to $3 million dollars. Sweeney expressed the amount of time and work applying for the grant will take and discussed the possibility of hiring a grant writer to help throughout the application process.
