State Representative Jackie Haas announced on Mar. 27 that she will host a Hazardous Waste Drop Off Event on Saturday, April 18 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the City of Kankakee Public Works Department Parking Lot, located at 401 W. Oak Street in Kankakee. The event is being held in partnership with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, the City of Kankakee, and the Kankakee Fire Department.

The event aims to provide residents with an opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous materials from their homes and help keep the community safe. “Help keep our community safe by properly and safely disposing of hazardous materials at our upcoming Hazardous Waste Drop Off Event!” said Rep. Haas. “I encourage all interested constituents to utilize this important service to keep their homes and our community safe.”

Items accepted for disposal include oil-based paints, used motor oil, paint thinners, drain cleaners, herbicides, lawn chemicals, insecticides, solvents, household batteries, latex paint, pesticides, antifreeze, old gasoline, hobby chemicals, pool chemicals, aerosol paints and pesticide products, cleaning products, fluorescent lamp bulbs and mercury.

Pre-registration is required for those wishing to participate in the drop off event.

Haas was elected as a Republican representative to Illinois’ State House in 2020 for the state’s 79th House District after replacing Lindsay Parkhurst according to available information.
