Resolution Approved for Property Tax Relief

The Bourbonnais Board of Trustees approved a resolution, Monday, October 17, at the bi-monthly board meeting stating the intent of the village board concerning use of proposed increased sales tax for property tax relief, as stated on the November 8 general election ballot.

Citizens of the Village of Bourbonnais will decide if a one percent sales tax should be added to its current 6.25% rate. If approved by voters, funds collected would be utilized for offering property tax rebates to single family owner-occupied homeowners on the municipal portion of their tax bill for at least ten years.

“Based upon public feedback received, solidifying longevity for the property tax relief program was important to residents,” stated Bourbonnais Mayor, Paul Schore. “With this resolution, it reaffirms to constituents the intent for the proposed one percent sales tax and 100% property tax rebates for at least ten years. This isn’t a one and done situation. It’s meant to provide relief.”

A single-family homeowner with a property valued at $200,000 pays approximately $300 per year to the Village of Bourbonnais.
