Robin Kelly, U.S. Congresswoman representing Illinois’ 2nd district since 2013, posted a series of statements on her social media account addressing issues ranging from gun violence to global aid and consumer protection.

On July 20, 2025, Kelly reflected on the anniversary of the Aurora shooting, stating: “Remembering the Aurora tragedy 13 years ago. 12 lives lost, 58 injured. Congress’s inaction on gun violence is unacceptable. I’ll always fight for commonsense reforms to keep our communities safe.”

Later that day, she criticized recent legislative actions by House Republicans regarding international assistance. On July 20, she wrote: “The House GOP rubberstamped heartless cuts to global aid, abandoning our allies. This isn’t ‘America First’– it’s a dangerous retreat that cedes our influence & jeopardizes global stability. Republicans are prioritizing billionaire tax breaks over American leadership.”

On July 21, Kelly highlighted the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s impact over its fourteen-year history: “In 14 years, the CFPB has returned over $21 billion to consumers harmed by illegal or unfair financial practices—benefiting more than 200 million Americans through refunds, debt cancellation & other relief. I’ll continue to protect people and hold bad actors accountable.”

Kelly has represented Illinois’s 2nd District in Congress since replacing Jesse Jackson Jr. in 2013 and previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. Born in New York City in 1956 and currently residing in Matteson, she graduated from Bradley University with a bachelor’s degree in 1977.
