Robin Kelly, a U.S. Representative, has recently addressed issues related to gun industry accountability and commemorated the anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s release from prison in a series of social media posts.
On February 11, 2026, Kelly stated: “For too long, the gun industry has operated without accountability while our communities pay the price. I’m fighting to change that. Learn more about my efforts: https://t.co/NmMVrPj8oL”.
In a subsequent post on the same day, she outlined her legislative priorities regarding firearm safety standards: “My Firearm Safety Act finally applies consumer safety standards to guns, like: Warning labels. Recalls on defective firearms. The same basic protections applied to other dangerous products. Guns should be sold responsibly. Period.”
On February 12, 2026, Kelly reflected on a historical milestone: “36 years ago today, Nelson Mandela walked out of prison after 27 years—a reminder that no system of oppression is permanent when met with unyielding courage. As we continue the fight for justice and equality here at home, we draw strength from Madiba’s legacy.”
Robin Kelly has represented Illinois in Congress since winning a special election in 2013 against Paul McKinley by a margin of over 48 percentage points. She has consistently secured re-election with significant majorities; for example, she won in 2014 against Eric Wallace with nearly 79% of the vote and continued this trend through subsequent elections in 2016 (nearly 80% against John Morrow), 2018 (over 81% against David Merkle), 2020 (almost 79% against Theresa Raborn), and most recently in 2022 with over two-thirds of the vote against Thomas Lynch.
