U.S. Representative Robin Kelly, who serves Illinois’s 2nd congressional district, recently highlighted her ongoing initiatives and commemorated a key civil rights milestone in a series of posts on social media.

On August 5, 2025, Kelly promoted youth engagement in civic leadership, stating: “Our best investment is in the next generation of leaders. My Congressional Youth Cabinet empowers young leaders in IL-02 to make a difference. If you’re a high school student ready to lead, apply today and join us!”

The following day, she marked the anniversary of landmark voting rights legislation: “60 years ago today, we passed the Voting Rights Act, a hard-won victory for our civil rights and a cornerstone of our democracy. Thanks to those who fought for our voting rights as we still defend them today.” This post referenced the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965.

Later on August 6, Kelly criticized recent policy proposals affecting social programs and invited constituents to participate in an upcoming event: “Trump’s ‘Big Ugly Law’ slashes $1T from Medicaid & cuts food aid to help billionaires. Join me & @ACLUofIL’s Ed Yohnka for my town hall in Hyde Park on Aug 11 at 6:30PM. We’ll talk about what’s happening & how I’m protecting you. Register today:”

Kelly has represented Illinois’s 2nd congressional district since winning a special election in 2013 and has consistently secured re-election by significant margins. In recent elections, she defeated Thomas Lynch in 2022 with over two-thirds of the vote; prior victories include wins against Theresa Raborn (2020), David Merkle (2018), John Morrow (2016), and Eric Wallace (2014), each by large percentages.
