Rauner names two to state positions

Illinoisseal

Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner appointed Raymond Poe and James Mullenix to two state agencies on Friday.

Currently a state representative, Poe will be Illinois' new director of the Department of Agriculture. He is a lifelong farmer from the Springfield area and has represented his district for 20 years. He's been a member of several committees, including the Agriculture and Conservation Committee. Representatives for the governor said Poe's dynamic background as an experienced farmer and dedicated legislator made him a good fit for the job.

Rauner also appointed Mullenix, a veteran defense attorney, to the Illinois Torture Inquiry and Relief Commission. Mullenix is a criminal defense attorney at Koehler Mullenix, LLC and has previously served as a public defender in Cook County. He has almost 35 years of legal experience.

The Illinois Torture Inquiry and Relief Commission was created by law in 2009 to gather evidence and evaluate claims of torture cases in the judicial system. Mullenix will be one of eight commission members.
