Forty police officers from around Kankakee County volunteered to participate in this year's Shop With a Cop program on Sunday, connecting dozens of children with holiday gifts and food for their families.
Approximately 70 children were picked up at their homes by police and taken in police cars to McDonald's for breakfast and the Bradley Wal-Mart for holiday shopping. Officers and volunteers helped the children pick out gifts and gave them hats, gloves and holiday food baskets to take home.
The program was coordinated by the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office and several local villages and businesses. The full list includes Kankakee County Sheriff Tim Bukowski, FOP Lodge # 150, Bourbonnais FOP, Riverside Credit Union, Scanlon Collision Specialists, Illinois State Police – District # 21, Shoup Manufacturing, McDonalds, Wal-Mart, Aqua Illinois, CSL Behring, Andaul Jewelers, St. Joe’s Advent Mission, Village of Aroma Park, Village of St. Anne, Village of Grant Park, Grant Park Police Chief Carl Frey, Jack and Lisa Dugan and many citizen volunteers.
