The Manteno Public Works Committee held its regular meeting Oct. 13 in the Village Conference Room.
Terry Boyers of Donohue & Associates presented information on updating the village's National Pollution Discharge Elimination System permit for its water treatment facility.
The permits are required by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Clean Water Act and are meant to prevent water contamination at the state and local level by stopping pollution where it starts.
Byers said there are new regulations on the way regarding the treatment of phosphorus and mercury that the village will have to become compliant with by 2020.
Engineer Mike Stone told the committee that the Walnut St. parking lot is almost finished and 40 trees were planted near the former site of Hundman Lumber to help beautify the nearby overpass area.
Stone also said an alley construction project approved by the village may require an additional $10,000 to $12,000 because of a collapsed drain tile crews discovered. It will need to be dug out and replaced in order for construction to continue.
The village salt supply was judged adequate for the winter.
Trustees Todd Crockett and Samuel Martin were absent.
