County jail opens job search kiosk for prisoners, public

Wantads

A new job searching kiosk has been installed in the lobby of the county jail to help prisoners and the public find suitable work.

The Jerome Combs Detention Center will be one of less than 10 county jails in the country to offer such services and the first in Illinois.

The kiosk, which runs a program called "Jobview 2nd Chance," gives users the ability to search local, statewide, and national job listings for all levels of experience.

Those with previous work experience can also search by field. If users find a listing they want to pursue, they can print it out.

Officials hope the fact that the kiosk is located in the county jail lobby won't deter the public from making use of the resource as well.

“Not only is this system available to inmates being released from jail, it is available for the general public in search of employment to come out to the lobby of the Jerome Combs Detention Center and search for employment” Undersheriff Mike Downey said.

The new kiosk adds to a number of programs maintained by the county to offer services to prisoners while incarcerated and upon their release, including Thinking 4 a Change, the Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program, outpatient drug and alcohol treatment and GED training.

The Jerome Combs Detention Center can be found at 3050 S. Justice Way in Kankakee.
