The Kankakee County Executive Committee discussed the details of a much-needed technology update at its Dec. 23 meeting.
Committee members considered the best way to upgrade the county's servers, some of which are a decade old and now difficult to properly service. The committee was particularly interested in preserving the county's GIS mapping program and agreed to consider hiring a special consultant for no more than $5,000 to advise the county on the issue.
The committee also decided that the other consultants who have already worked with the city in this capacity were too busy with their primary duties to give enough attention to the issue now.
The committee announced that the county had received its Motor Fuel Tax, video gaming and 911 funds from the state; the funds were tied up in the state's budget impasse but were released through special legislation.
The committee reappointed James LaMotte to the Kankakee County Emergency Telephone System board and Peggy Skoff, Eloise Bertrand and John Nelson to the Bloom's Grove Cemetery Association.
The committee also announced openings on the Kankakee County Housing Authority and the Kankakee County Farmland Assessment Review Committee.
