LaRocque outlines new Manteno ordinances

Manteno

Manteno Director of Building and Zoning Chris LaRocque recently published an update on changes to village codes in the village's winter newsletter.

LaRocque said the village has implemented a new 5 ft. distance for driveways built in the residential zoning district, correcting the two conflicting distances previously listed. The village has also loosened its regulations for commercial entrances and street intersections, allowing for a case-by-case interpretation by the chief of police and village engineer.

The village changed its electronic sign policy to allow signs with moving images and added a requirement for LED lighting in all new developments.

Builders will be required to pay building and impact fees again. LaRocque emphasized the fees are still only one quarter of the total amount due for the year, an amount that reflects the village's interest in continuing to incentivize new home building in Manteno, despite economic difficulties.

"Both ordinances and building codes are living documents," LaRocque said. "By that, we mean that they are always changing to stay relevant. As you can see by the examples...as a village we are continually reviewing what works and what doesn’t for our residents. No matter what the changes are the goal remains the same, to keep our village attractive and our residents safe."

The village is currently conducting a standard head-to-toe review of the 2015 version of village codes in search of any other discrepancies or areas that need revision.
