Porter preps Momence residents for utility adjustments, new recycling bins

Electricity

Momence Mayor Mick Porter outlined the schedule and rationale Monday for the ongoing utility construction along Second and Fourth streets in Momence.

Porter said the work, which involves replacing utility poles and submerging existing overhead power lines underground, will reduce the occurrence of power outages and improve the power system's resiliency when outages do occur.

Citing ComEd representative Rawlin Brown, Porter said the work is expected to be finished in April.

Porter also reminded residents that 95 gallon recycling totes are on the way, courtesy of Allied Waste. City officials are still working out the recycling schedule but are hopeful that the large totes will support the city's attempt to phase out plastic bags and promote recycling.
