The Plainfield Fire Protection District is mourning the loss of emergency vehicle technician Mike Ludemann.
Ludemann passed away suddenly Feb. 21 at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was 54.
“He’s going to be missed by everybody,” Plainfield Fire Chief Dave Riddle said. “It’s a devastating loss.”
Local fire officials remembered Ludemann's exceptional mechanical ability, his insistence on doing a job the right way and his selfless spirit.
“He was a guy that was there for you no matter what time of day, what day of the week -- didn’t matter if it was birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas. If you needed something from this guy, he was going to be there,” Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said. “He treated everything in this district like it was his, with the pride that he took in it. He was willing to help out any of the guys any time. That’s just the way he was."
Ludemann is survived by his wife Mary Kay and a son.
Funeral services were held Friday at St. John Lutheran Church.
