The Manteno Planning and Zoning Committee reviewed recent changes to permit requirements Jan. 21 at Manteno Village Hall.
Director of Building and Zoning Chris LaRocque ran through a list of the changes with the board, which include exempting window and door replacement from permitting, allowing wood sheds to be placed on non-drainage easements without a concrete foundation, setting back driveways up to 5 feet from property lines, providing LED lighting requirements for new subdivisions and banning the planting of trees along the village's section of Bourbonnais Parkway.
The village also revisited Trustee Todd Crockett's proposal to consider implementing an apartment inspection program. After discussing the effectiveness of similar programs in neighboring towns and considering the village's preference for limiting regulations and administration, LaRocque and other officials concluded it was best to continue without a dedicated inspection program as long as rental and safety issues continue to be adequately addressed.
LaRocque said he typically fields four to five calls per year from residents requesting intervention with a landlord, which he deals with on a case-by-case basis.
