Kankakee Community College (KCC) Associate Dean of Humanities and Social Science Dr. Jill Channing will give a free talk on gender equality March 15 in KCC's Iroquois Room.
The presentation is titled "Closing the Gender Gap" and is being put on as part of the college's celebration of Women's History Month.
“Although women have made great strides in terms of achieving parity in areas, such as pay, health care, representation in governments and personal relationships, still much progress is left for women to achieve parity with men in these and other areas throughout the world,” Channing said. “The World Economic Forum predicted in 2014 that it would take until 2095 to achieve global gender parity, and in 2015, they estimated that the gender gap would not close until 2133."
Channing added that communities and nations are compromised when women's full potential isn't realized.
"Women have great potential that is often untapped to the detriment of individuals as well as nations and their economies across the globe," Channing said. "This year’s International Women’s Day is a call to action for people of all genders to join forces to create a more equitable and socially just world.”
The talk begins at 12:30 p.m and is expected to last approximately an hour.
