The Momence City Council approved an ordinance Monday that will allow local officials to stop water and sewer service for all bills left unpaid longer than 50 days.
The ordinance also allows for a $100 reconnection service once the past due bills have been brought current.
If the same payer fails to pay his or her bill within 50 days a second time, the reconnection fee will be raised an additional $100 for each of those subsequent reconnections.
The ordinance is pending codification within city law.
