The Kankakee County board denied Glenn Kirchner's request for a setback variance that would have allowed the construction of two wind mills near the front of his property.
Kirchner sought the variance in order to build the wind mills within 50 feet of the front of his farm's property line. He planned to use them to generate power to keep his livestock fed during power outages.
The request was previously denied by the county's zoning board of appeals on the grounds that the wind mills would pose a threat to public safety by being so close to the road.
