Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 74.3 percent of Grant Park High School's (GPHS) 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.

The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.

For GPHS, its college-enrollment rate marks an improvement over 2014, when 72.5 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.

Among other high schools in Kankakee, their Class of 2015 college-readiness rates were all lower than that of GPHS. The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.

Enrollment at GPHS in 2015 was 158; 39 (24.68 percent) were seniors.

ISBE said 42.1 percent of GPHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, vs. an average of 46 percent statewide.

All students who score a 21 on the ACT qualify as "college ready."

GPHS students did better on science (39.5 percent) and English (55.3 percent), and worse on math (31.6) and reading (36.8).

Only 23.7 percent of GPHS students were college ready in all four subjects, ISBE said.
