Four student athletes at Kankakee Community College recently were honored with the NJCAA Exemplary Academic Achievement Award, which is given to athletes who earn a grade point average between 3.60 and 3.79 on a 4.0 scale.
The recipients are softball player Bailee Porter, of Bourbonnais; soccer player Christian Slinkard, of Peotone; and volleyball players Kaelyn Vaughn, of Clifton and Rachel Greene of St. Anne.
Porter, a sophomore second base standout for the Cavaliers Softball team, recently completed an Associate in Arts transfer degree and will attend the University of Evansville in Indiana on a full softball scholarship.
Slinkard, a graduate of the Associate in Applied Science in Law Enforcement program, was a sweeper on defense for the soccer team. He will now enter the workforce full time.
Vaughn, a setter and defensive specialist on the volleyball squad, plans to move on to Valparaiso University in Indiana after finishing an Associate in Arts transfer degree. She earned two academic scholarships at Valparaiso.
Greene, the volleyball team’s libero, recently completed an Associate in Arts transfer degree and will choose between academic scholarship offers from two colleges for the upcoming school year.
