The Kankakee Valley Park District has fishing and horseback-riding lessons starting in mid-October, according to the organization's online program guide.
The second session of horseback-riding lessons starts at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Skyview Farm, 57 S. 8000 W. Road in Kankakee. Students will learn basics and safety, including putting on halters, grooming and saddling. Participants need to wear long pants and heeled shoes. Riding helmets will be provided.

Lessons are for participants of ages seven and older; cost is $100. The lessons are held each Thursday through Nov. 17.
Fishing 101, which is open to all ages, will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at Goselin Park. Participants 16 and older will need state fishing licenses. Casting, safety, cleaning fish and making lures are some of the subjects that will be taught.
