Six Tigers receive academic recognition

Six members of last season's Olivet Nazarene University (ONU) football team were named 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, according to www.onutigers.com.

The Tigers who were recognized: Codey Bishop, senior, engineering; Corbin Hesterberg, junior, business administration; Ryan Jennings, senior, biology; Matt McDivitt, senior, public policy; Drew Philson, senior, actuarial science; and Palmer Ponstein, senior, criminal justice.

ONU has been reaping postseason academic honors since the end of the season. Each of the ONU players selected was picked for a second time. Also, the players also recently earned placement on the Mid-States Football Association All-Academic Team, and Philson was selected for the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America College Division Team.

Qualifications to be a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete include being at least a junior, being nominated by a head coach or school's sports-information director, and having a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
