Kankakee School District No. 111 Board of Education met Monday, Nov. 21.
The Kankakee School District Board of Education is composed of seven elected members deeply committed to ensuring a quality of educational excellence that will enhance the opportunities and challenges facing today's student. Board members are elected to four-year terms and receive no salary for their services.

BOARD OF EDUCATION MINUTES
November 21, 2016
A special meeting of the Board of Education of Kankakee School District No. 111, Kankakee County, Illinois, was held at 6:00 p.m. in the Auditorium at Lincoln Cultural Center, 240 Warren Avenue, Kankakee, Illinois.
ROLL CALL
Members present: John Coghlan
Amelia Davis, Vice President
Jess Gathing
Karen Johnston, President
Joseph Lightfoot
Angela Shea
Barbara A. Wells, Secretary
Members absent: None.
A quorum was declared present.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Board President, Karen Johnston.
Closed Session
At 6:03 p.m., motion was made by Gathing, seconded by Coghlan, to adjourn for closed session to discuss appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body. ROLL CALL VOTE—Ayes: Coghlan, Davis, Gathing, Lightfoot, Shea,
Wells, and Johnston. Nays: none. Motion carried.
The closed session was adjourned at 6:59 p.m.
At 7:07 p.m. the regular session was reconvened with all board members present.

Amendment to Agenda
President Johnston asked for a motion to amend the agenda to place public comments before the action item.
Motion was made by Coghlan, seconded by Gathing, to have public comments prior to the action item as presented. ROLL CALL VOTE--Ayes: Gathing, Lightfoot, Shea, Wells, Coghlan, Davis, and Johnston. Nays: none. Motion carried.
Public Comments
The following public comments were made:
Michele Crecy Expressed concern over a Facebook post from Larry Null referencing “a short bus”.
Gene Cotsones Stated that although Mr. Null’s post was extreme and an ugly personal opinion, he didn’t feel like it was grounds for firing him.
Recommendation to Terminate Larry Null, Assistant Director of Maintenance
Motion was made by Coghlan, seconded by Gathing, to approve the recommendation to terminate Larry Null, Assistant Director of Maintenance as presented. ROLL CALL VOTE--Ayes: Lightfoot, Shea, Wells, Coghlan, Davis, Gathing, and Johnston.
At 7:14 p.m. a motion was made by Gathing and seconded by Lightfoot to adjourn the meeting. All ayes; motion carried.
