State Rep. Lindsay Parkhurst (R-Kankakee) urged friends and constituents to participate in an effort to send valentines to local veterans in a recent posting on her Facebook page.
"Help spread good wishes and love to local veterans for Valentine's Day by crafting and sending out some handmade valentines,” the posting said.
Parkhurst came up with the idea for constituents to share sentiments on the mid-winter occasion and encouraged students and residents of all ages to participate by creating either a card or a simple drawing, according to her website.
Parkhurst urged participants in the event to drop off their cards at her office in Kankakee so they could be distributed to local veterans.
“It’s important to remember our veterans on all holidays and this is a great chance for us to show them the love and appreciation they deserve,” Parkhurst said in the Facebook posting. “Part of their service may have involved being away from loved ones, (so) let’s honor them on Valentine's Day.”
