Several members of the Olivet Nazarene University (ONU) swimming and diving program recently were named 2017 Daktronics-National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Scholar-Athletes.

ONU women's team members Tiffany Ray, Shannyn Santos, Deirdre Gerke and Kristena Poll, and men's team members Guilherme Magnoler and Todd Suttor earned the distinction, according to ONUTigers.com.

Ray and Santos each earned the honor for the second time, while Gerke, Poll, Magnoler and Suttor were first-time honorees.

Athletes who have been named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete were nominated by their head coach or the sports-information director of their school, reached the status of junior and have a minimum of a 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

Nationally, 59 participants in women's swimming and diving and 30 participants in the men's events earned Scholar-Athlete status.

The awards were announced March 3, according to ONUTigers.com.
