Nic Reed collected plenty of honors throughout his first season with Olivet Nazarene University (ONU), so it was fitting that he capped the year off by being named Freshman of the Year by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) recently.
A native of New Albany, Indiana, the high-scoring forward also was named to the All-CCAC first team. He averaged 23.7 points per game in league play to lead the conference in scoring, was sixth in rebounding at 8.7 per game, and came in third in free-throw percentage, at .861.
Reed was also an NAIA National Player of the Week during the season, as well as a three-time CCAC Player of the Week selection.
In other honors for ONU, senior guard Tyler Crater received All-CCAC honorable mention. According to statistics on ONU's athletic website, Crater averaged 17.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game this season, while scoring 17.9 points per league game. He tied with junior guard Chris Green for the team lead in 3-pointers, with 45.
