Following the recent decision by U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) to yank a major House vote on health care from the floor due to insufficient support, U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) released an official statement expressing disappointment.
“I am disappointed in what happened this week and especially today, but I’m ready and willing to work with anyone, Republicans and/or Democrats, to fix our broken health care system and make it better for the American people,” Kinzinger said in the statement after the vote on the American Health Care Act (AHCA) was canceled March 24.
Adding that the nation’s own Constitution tends to hinder laws which come to the floor with a long list of mandatory conditions, Kinzinger emphasized how this recent event clearly reflects the need for elected officials to work together more efficiently.
“It’s why we work together, as a legislative branch, to put together legislation that best reflects the core interests of the American people,” Kinzinger said, referring to measures that require “checking all of the boxes for one particular ideology.”
“Issuing ultimatums and derailing progress is not in the interest of the American people, and (is) a wholly self-serving tactic,” Kinzinger ssaid. “The American people deserve better and we as a legislative body can do better. I look forward to that opportunity.”
