Bradley Public Library District Board of Trustees met June 21.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

President Bayer called the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of Bradley Public Library District to order at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017.

Present: Bayer, Grace, Rodgers, Benoit, Hendrickson and Richardson Absent: none Also present: J. DePatis, Director, J. Ponton, Recording Secretary

Approval Of Minutes

Moved by Trustee Hendrickson, seconded by Trustee Rodgers, that

Minutes Of The May 17, 2017 Meeting Session Be Approved As Submitted

Director’s Report - [copy attached hereto]

40 new readers were registered and 7,032 items were issued in May. Receipts: $562.11 fines on overdue books - $382.00 – fax - $628.40 – copies – $232.26 – lost/damage – $420.00 – fee cards - $20.00 – other.

The Library Director’s Report For May Accepted

Director DePatis stated the following:

Staff:

Staff meetings were held on May 18th with attendance by all that were available. Nilda Rodriguez was initially laid off for the summer but she turned in her key and name tag so she is considered to have made a voluntary separation. Mary Bass, part time children’s assistant since October, 2016, has accepted a full time position at the Kankakee Public Library. She is finishing up the summer reading program for the Bradley Public Library before resigning. Lori Guytan was hired to help fill in with summer reading over the summer.

Continuing Ed:

Betty Chapman and Olivia Koerner attended a LACONI workshop on May 18th, titled Stealthy Yet Effective: Passive Readers Advisory Ideas held at the Bartlett Public Library. Seven staff members attended the Summer Food Service program on May 24th at the Kankakee YMCA. This training is an annual requirement.

Betty Chapman was invited to join the Twin Rivers Reading Council branch of the Illinois Reading Council. She is now president elect. Twin Reading Council host reading and literacy events throughout the area.

Programs:

Summer reading for youth has had over 300 sign-ups. Adult program has had 100 sign-ups. Summer Food Program has been going well with an average of 30 to 50 children attending. The Mobile Food Pantry served 75 households which included 125 adults and 175 children.

Misc.:

Received 50 free meeting room chairs from Homewood Public Library. Using 30 of the chairs to replace old chairs in the Weakley Room and the other 20 for adult program overflow.

Grants:

Erate funding for 2017-2018 has been approved:

Staff internet - $4,003.20

Public internet - $9,580.80

Total savings of $13,584.00

Committee Reports

The Friends of the Library did not meet in June. The Friends reminded the trustees to buy summer reading program raffle tickets.

Finance Committee met at 5:30PM this evening. The committee began working on the fiscal year 2018-2019 tentative budget. The Finance Committee will meet again on July 6th at 5:00PM to continue working on this budget.

Unfinished Business:

Director DePatis stated that 3 trees have been removed. The cost of the removal was $125.00 per tree. Ground cover will be added to the area where the trees had been located.

New Business:

Moved by Trustee Rodgers, seconded by Trustee Bayer to adopt Ordinance No. 17-02, Ordinance To Levy And Assess A Tax of.02% For The 2018-2019 Fiscal Year

Motion carried by roll call vote of 6 ayes, 0 nays and 0 absent

FOIA policy update for fiscal year 2017-2018 will be addressed at the next board meeting.

The Secretary has reviewed the closed meeting minutes and states that they are to remain closed.

Moved by Trustee Benoit, seconded by Trustee Rodgers to accept the My Media Mall Intergovernmental agreement

A public hearing date for the Ordinance to Levy and Access a Tax for the Bradley Public Library for the fiscal year 2018-2019 has been set for August 23rd at 6:00PM.

The Personnel Committee has set a meeting date of July 5th at 4:00PM.

Bradley National Night Out will be held on August 1st. Further details will be available at the board meeting in July.

Director DePatis reminded trustees that the Village of Bradley’s 125th celebration will be held on August 19th.
