Kankakee County residents who want to run for a county office can obtain nominating petition packets from the county clerk’s office or download them from the clerk’s website, according County Clerk Bruce Clark.
The county will hold a general primary election for federal, state and county offices on March 20, 2018. Those interested in running for a county offices, including clerk, treasurer, sheriff, board member and precinct committeeman, must return the completed packets between Nov. 27 and Dec. 4.
The order in which packets are returned will determine the order of names on the ballot. If two candidates running for the same office submit their packets at the same time when the clerk’s office opens at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 27, the clerk will run a lottery to determine the top position. In the same vein, if two candidates submit their packets at the same time at the end of the filing period, on Dec. 4, the last position on the ballot will be determined via lottery.

Those interested in running for non-county offices should submit petitions to the State Board of Elections in Springfield.
