As Illinois prepares its efforts to attract Amazon's second headquarters, Rep. Lindsay Parkhurst (R-Kankakee) and Kankakee County Board Chairman Andy Wheeler are pushing on a local level for Kankakee to feature in the state’s proposal, according to a press release.

“The Kankakee County proposal offers an inspired, inventive, imaginative, and innovative plan quite different from most submissions,” Parkhurst said, according to the release. “Plus, Kankakee County is the ideal location for transportation, water resources, workforce, accessibility, and other opportunities. Our workforce has a ready to work attitude and an unmatched desire to grow and develop a thriving economy.”

Parkhurst touts Illinois as containing a lot of what Amazon is looking for as the home of its new headquarters, dubbed HQ2. Wherever it lands, HQ2 stands to boost the local economy with jobs in the tens of thousands and investments ranging into the billions, according to the release.
