Erin Doherty became Olivet Nazarene University's 63rd homecoming queen during a coronation ceremony on Oct. 25, according to the school’s website.

Doherty, a senior majoring in psychology and minoring in sociology, plans to pursue a master’s degree in counseling while she continues her full-time camp ministry role. Doherty has held numerous leadership positions during her time at Olivet, iincluding with Youth for Christ high school tutoring, LifeSong and the Music Ambassador band.

Doherty, a Racine, Wisconsin, native, was also involved in the Proclamation Gospel Choir.

Cameron Walker, a Fenton, Michigan, native and political science major, escorted Doherty at the ceremony.

According to the school, choosing a homecoming queen has been a tradition since 1955. A senior is chosen by the student body for her integrity, sacrifice to God and compassion, and for expressing her academic, social and spiritual ideals..

Olivet University held a Homecoming and Family Weekend that started with the coronation and ended with a President’s Prayer Breakfast on Oct. 29, according to the school’s website.

“Olivet loves tradition, and homecoming activities are one of the best ways for us to celebrate,” Erinn Proehl, director of alumni and university relations, said on the website. “We invite everyone – students, their parents and siblings, faculty, staff, friends and our community – and all age groups to join us. Celebrating with all of you adds so much to this special time on our campus.”

Other members selected for this year’s homecoming court included Bennet Schimmelpfennig, Danielle Maranion, JP Bopp, Olivia Ruhberg, Trevor Franklin, Nichole Schuitema, Robby Harjo and Raegan Zelaya.
