Colton Ekhoff, a Republican candidate for the Kankakee County Board, is kicking off his campaign with a gathering at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at Sammy's, 119 W. Washington St., in Momence, a flier from the campaign said.
Admission to the event is free, but donations will be accepted and sponsorships are available for $150, $100 or $75.
“I want to represent our district on the Kankakee County Board to bring disciplined, responsive and honest leadership to the forefront of our county government,” Ekhoff said in the flier.

The District 2 seat is currently held by Jim Vickery, who Ekhoff has criticized for voting too many times in favor of tax increases. Ekhoff told the Kankakee Times in October that Vickery has supported raising property taxes 16 times in 16 years he has been on the board.
Ekhoff, a carpenter, wants to encourage input from residents on potential tax increases, something he feels was not been done with the board's recent vote to bump up property taxes 3.7 percent.
