Call To Order And Roll Call:

President Dave Haase called the Board of Education of the Iroquois West District Number 10, Iroquois County, Illinois to order in Regular Session on November 20, 2017 in the Board Room at the Iroquois West High School in Gilman, Illinois. The following officers and members of the Board of Education were present: Dave Haase – President, Vicki Killus – Vice President, Kyle Kraft – Secretary, Rodger Bennett, Norma Classen, Domitila Garcia and Anthony Miller.

A quorum of the members of the Board being present the President called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm declared the Board to be in session for the transaction of business.

Administrators present: Dr. Linda L. Dvorak, Joshua Houberg, Duane Ehmen, Christina Duncan, Jim Harkins, Ashley Carlson

Others present were: Jenny Mims - Recording Secretary, John Elliott, Kim Eggemeyer, Kristy Arie and Cameron Stone

Modifications To The Agenda:

There was one modification to the closed session agenda. The addition of #9 Student Issue.

Rodger Bennett made a motion to approve modification to the agenda; Kyle Kraft seconded it. Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen – Yea, Domitila Garcia – Yea, Dave Haase – Yea, Vicki Killus – Yea, Kyle Kraft – Yea, Anthony Miller – Yea. The motion carried, 7-0.

President Haase welcomed all visitors.

Communications Reports And Presentations:

Those who Excel – Kim Eggemeyer. Kim is a second grade teacher at GES. She is an excellent teacher, strong leader, very tech savvy, creative and always smiling. She is spear heading the math push and is also the mentoring director. She is well respected by her peers. President Haase presented her with a token of appreciation medal. At this time, Kim Eggemeyer left.

Correspondence – A thank you note from Willene Zachgo was shared.

Special Education

Board Committee Reports - Attendees of the Annual Conference shared their experiences. Dr. Dvorak attended a meeting on renovating older buildings. The main theme was to have a plan. She was also very excited about the virtual reality laptop in the STEM lab. Overall, everyone felt it was a good experience with lots of helpful information.

Administrative Reports:

Houberg – NTA

Ehmen –. Invited everyone to stop by Middle School the morning of 12-20-17 to cast a vote in door decorating contest.

Duncan – NTA.

Harkins – Wanted to give a shout out to Lisa McMillan who taught the kids to sign the Pledge of Allegiance. Also mentioned the GES/DES Christmas concert at 7:00 p.m. on 12-7-17, UES concert at 7:00 p.m. on 12-5-17 and MS/HS concert on 12-10-17 at 3:00 p.m.

Carlson/Curriculum –. Invited everyone to come to Christmas Dinner on December 20, 2017.

Athletic Director – NTA

Onarga Academy - Not Present

Dvorak – Dr. Dvorak discussed the Non Resident Tuition Waiver. Enrollment is key. We do need to resubmit every 5 years. The district has been paid for last year. Dr. Dvorak discussed the ISBE New Accountability System. The Teacher Conference Survey Results are enclosed in packet. Some suggestions were regarding math, Spanish in lower grades, and more technology. The next Community Engagement Committee meeting will be held 12-12-17. Senator Jason Barickman will be touring our buildings on November 29, 2017.

Unfinished Business

New Business:

EBM Video Training – Dr. Dvorak had the board watch 4 videos which gave them some idea of how the District will receive it’s funding. This new system changes everything. At this point, it looks like we may be Tier 2 the first year. By January – March, we should know something more concrete.

Title I Schoolwide Plans – This is a yearly requirement.

Norma Classen made a motion to approve the Title I Schoolwide Plans; Anthony Miller seconded it. Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen – Yea, Domitila Garcia – Yea, Dave Haase – Yea, Vicki Killus – Yea, Kyle Kraft – Yea, Anthony Miller – Yea. The motion carried, 7-0.

Tax Levy 2017 - Dr. Dvorak presented the Public Tax Levy 2017.

Vicki Killus made a motion to set the Public Levy Hearing for December 18, 2017 at 6:45 in the IW Board Room. Norma Classen seconded it. Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen – Yea, Domitila Garcia – Yea, Dave Haase – Yea, Vicki Killus – Yea, Kyle Kraft – Yea, Anthony Miller – Yea. The motion carried, 7-0.

Bus for Santa Train – Dr. Dvorak discussed need for bus. Bill Robinson has volunteered to drive the bus.

Motion made by Rodger Bennett to approve allowing the Iroquois County Chamber of Commerce to utilize an Iroquois West CUSD 10 bus with a volunteer IW bus driver for transportation for the Santa Train. Anthony Miller seconded it. Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen – Yea, Domitila Garcia – Yea, Dave Haase – Yea, Vicki Killus – Yea, Kyle Kraft – Yea, Anthony Miller – Yea. The motion carried, 7-0.

Executive Session:

Kyle Kraft made a motion to enter executive session at the high school at 8:37 pm for reasons: (#1) The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1). (#9) Student disciplinary cases. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(9).

Anthony Miller seconded it. Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen – Yea, Domitila Garcia – Yea, Dave Haase – Yea, Vicki Killus – Yea, Kyle Kraft – Yea, Anthony Miller - Yea. The motion carried, 7-0.

Norma Classen made a motion to exit executive session at 9:00 pm; Anthony Miller seconded it. Roll call vote: Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen – Yea, Domitila Garcia – Yea, Dave Haase – Yea, Vicki Killus – Yea, Kyle Kraft – Yea, Anthony Miller – Yea. The motion carried, 7-0.

Motion made by Vicki Killus to approve the following extracurricular assignments:

- Elizabeth Poppie as Head Softball Coach;

- Jim Price as High School Volunteer Track Coach;

- Amy Miller as JV Girls Basketball Coach;

- Lindsay Pickham as High School Girls Track Coach.

Kyle Kraft seconded it. Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen – Yea, Domitila Garcia – Yea, Dave Haase – Yea, Vicki Killus – Yea, Kyle Kraft – Yea, Anthony Miller - Abstained. The motion carried, 6-0.

Vicki Killus asked if there were any plans to increase math minutes. The principals are looking into it.

Adjourn:

Rodger Bennett made a motion to adjourn; Norma Classen seconded. Upon Voice Vote, the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 9:21 pm.
