The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Kankakee School District No. 111, Kankakee County, Illinois, was held at 6:40 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room at Taft Primary School, 1155 West Hawkins Street, Kankakee, Illinois.
Roll Call:
Members present: Mary Archie

Members absent: Jess Gathing (*entered at 7:16 pm)

A quorum was declared present.
Closed Session At 6:41 p.m., motion was made by Shea, seconded by Williams, to adjourn to closed session to discuss appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body. Roll Call Vote--Ayes: Archie, Shea, Williams, and Wells. Nays: none. Motion carried.
The closed session was adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
At 7:07 p.m. the regular session was reconvened.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by students from Taft Primary School. Students from Ms. Scheiwiller’s second grade class performed the song “Graduate.”

Scholastic Book Fair; Event
Explanation:
Julia Dunlap and Holly Moody were also chosen for the Judges’ Choice Award! This honor means they were chosen as an exceptional performance. Each judge chooses their favorite performance of the day.
• Thank you to Kennedy’s librarian, students, parents, and staff for over $4,400 of books that were sold during the recent Scholastic Book Fair. The proceeds will allow the librarian Christine Case, to select $2,200 worth of books for the new library, which is scheduled to open in late November.

• The ROE Life Education Center Pledge for Life Partnership donated $450 to Kankakee High School.
• King Music donated concert band folders to the high school band program.
Principal’s Report – Mr. Terrence Lee, Taft Principal:
Mr. Lee reviewed Taft’s school improvement goals:

Lisa Ferry, Assistant Principal, introduced the Taft staff. The presentation concluded with the staff from Taft honoring Ms. Ferry for her retirement at the end of this school year. They sang a song and students performed on cups to “We’re Going to Miss You When You’re Gone.”

2017 Tentative Tax Levy:
Mr. Grossi, Assistant Superintendent for Business Services, presented the 2017 tentative tax levy. President Wells asked if there were any questions and hearing none, asked for a motion to approve the tentative tax levy.
Motion was made by Gathing, seconded by Williams, to approve the 2017 tentative tax levy as presented. Roll Call Vote--Ayes: Gathing, Shea, Williams, Archie, and Wells. Nays: none. Motion carried.
