Momence City Council met January 2.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 N. Dixie Highway, Momence. Mayor Chuck Steele called the meeting to order.

Roll Call:

Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen Salomone, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Temple and Cope were present. Also present was Mayor Steele. Alderman Cook was absent.

Approval Of Previous Meeting Minutes:

Alderman Salomone made a motion to approve the minutes of the December 18, 2017 council meeting with the correction of adding “decreased from estimate” to the aldermanic notes. Alderman Metz seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, and Temple. Alderman Cope passed.

Approval Of The Bills:

The bills were discussed at tonight's Budget and Finance Committee Meeting. Alderman Salomone made a motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Metz seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Temple and Cope voting yes.

Citizen Forum Diane Denton – son received a ticket for her son parking in a non parking zone. She stated no knowledge of this ordinance, ordinance states no parking form 2 – 5 am. Her ticket has been increased, feels that she has been treated unfairly, would like this to be put to a warning instead of a ticket. She is stating that this area should be residential. No signs are close to her home. Alderman Clark is stating that there is no No Parking sign on her block. Signs may need to be updated if signs are in bad shape, ex. weather beaten. Ordinance will be looked into stated by Alderman Cope. Aldernman Clark will speak to the officer, see if can be reduced to a warning, and speak to Diane Denton. Chief/mayor cannot change the ticket.

Aldermanic Reports:

1. Rebekah Cope - Discuss and Vote Ordinance New State of Illinois Sexual Harassment Policy, Ordinance 840, Alderman Cope made motion to approve, Alderman Rehmer seconded the motion. Alderman Salomone, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Temple and Cope voting yes.

2. Salomone – Budget and Finance meeting set for Monday, January 15 7:15 pm

3. Metz – Mediacom issues were severe.

Department Heads:

Treasurer report – a couple of issues, phone bill is being questioned, rebate sales tax is over 4000.00. We do not have the adjustments from the auditor as of yet. Jenene will be emailing Abe to see where the information is. Signature cards at Municipal need to be signed as soon as possible. Midland has waved all fees for the last 2 months, Jenene is waiting on proposals. Midland has waived all fees. Questions on direct deposit with Municipal, we work on a cash basis. Abe is stating that we need to pay employees on Wednesday for all hours worked through end of day Tuesday. This makes direct deposit difficult for Wednesday pay days..

Mayoral Report:

Discussion on Johnsonville Contract - talked with attorneys, what was discussed during executive session was legal, Mayor wants to meet Mr. Kerouac “half way”. Mayor discussed what was voted on with the contract between Johnsonville and the city from the last council meeting.

Alderman Metz made motion to adjourn, Alderman Salomone seconded the motion. Alderman Salomone, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Temple and Cope voting yes.
