Manteno Community Unit School District 5 Buildings and Grounds Committee met Jan. 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

A. District

1. Security Measures

Mr. Emerson has been working with Manteno Village Administration and Manteno Police Department to possibly partner with the Manteno Police to employ a School Resource Officer. The salary and benefits for the officer would be split 50/50 between the District and the Police Department. The School Resource Officer would travel between all three of the school buildings. Mr. Emerson will invite Police Chief Swinford to a Finance Committee meeting to discuss the specifics. The next step would be to invite Chief Swinford to a Board meeting. No decisions have been made at this time.

2. Outdoor Restrooms

Athletic Boosters continues to work towards their long-term goal of outdoor restrooms at the High School. They plan to engage in further conversation with the District to move forward on meeting their goal.

B. High School

1. Locker Room/Restroom Partitions

The restroom partitions were built over the Christmas break. They are done and look fantastic.

2. Track Maintenance

Conversations continue regarding the High School track maintenance. 

Budgets will be reviewed to meet the needs of the future repairs.

C. Middle School

1. 8th Grade Boys Handicapped Restroom Stall Door

The work was completed over the Christmas break and the door looks fantastic.

1. Parking Lot Resurfacing

The committee agreed to ask the Board for approval to ask BLDD Architects to create bid specifications to go out to bid to resurface the Middle School parking lot areas on the South and West side of the building. There are four areas that need repair.

V. Additional Agenda Items

A. The water tank at the High School is due for an internal inspection. Mr. DePoister will work with the State Fire Marshall to schedule a time during the summer months for the inspection.

B. The District has partnered with the Village to purchase and install a lightning detection system. In order to benefit both Heritage Park and Legacy Park the censor needs to be centrally located between the two parks, which has been identified on District property at the High School. There will be an annual fee of $1,000 that will be split 50/50. The District will have their own notification siren for athletic events for a cost of $3,700. There will be a weather app to follow as well.
